Total Health and Wholeness: TOOLS FOR CHANGE

By following the steps in Holy Healthy UMC, you should now have a clearer understanding of the Vision of the Arkansas Conference of the United Methodist Church, and the health and wellness resources available to you in your journey towards a healthier lifestyle. You also should now have an idea of the health and wellness challenges you may face personally, and have made a commitment to overcoming them.

This section was created to provide you personal tools and resources for success in each of the four areas of "Total Health". In the Assessment and Goal Setting section, you were asked to identify the areas of your life and health that need improvement. Now we offer you a variety of resources to choose from to begin to make those improvements. What works for you may not work for someone else, so go through the resources carefully, and keep a personal record of those that are most effective for you.

Click one or more of the links to go directly to the section where you wish to begin. Good luck!

Mental / Emotional Health

Mental health, as defined by the Surgeon General's Report on Mental Health, "refers to the successful performance of mental function, resulting in productive activities, fulfilling relationships with other people, and the ability to adapt to change and cope with adversity."

Social Health

Social health refers to people who are socially well having the ability to interact with others. They develop and cultivate close friendships and can interact with people of different backgrounds, lifestyles, and abilities. They recognize the necessity for personal time, and budget this into their schedule accordingly.

Spiritual Health

For the Christian, it is impossible to be truly healthy if our spiritual lives are not full and complete. We are not only flesh and blood, but spirit and soul, needing the grace of God just as much as the fish need water in which to live.

Physical Health

Physical health can be described as a combination of the absence of illness, the ability to cope with everyday activities, physical fitness, and high quality of life; freedom from pain in the physical body, having attained a state of well-being.
