PHYSICAL HEALTH: Living Healthy

Each day you make choices that may impact your level of health and the lives of those you love. Healthy choices are the key to healthy living. You can choose activities and practices that can harm us or support us. Deciding to live a healthier life is easy; it’s the follow-through that’s hard.

Some of our healthy practices are as common as getting enough sleep and drinking enough water. Other practices are unhealthy from the moment you start them but you choose to risk it for the temporary pleasure or purposed temporary benefit it provides. You know that cigarette smoking can cause cancer in smokers and affect those who breathe in the air around them. You also hear stories of how substance abuse can destroy a person’s life — whether it leads to the loss of a job, marriage, or even an innocent life.

But you have choices and can learn how to avoid risky situations, break unhealthy habits, and protect yourself and the lives of those you love. It’s important to remember that there are options and resources to help you make healthy decisions.

Healthier US

The HealthierUS initiative is a national effort to improve people’s lives, prevent and reduce the costs of disease, and promote community health and wellness. Deciding to live a healthier life is easy; it’s the follow-through that’s hard. You’ve already made a good start by coming to HealthierUS.gov to get the right information on how to improve your health habits. On HealthierUS.gov you will learn how to: Make physical activity a part of your day, eat more healthy foods, protect yourself and your family from illness, and avoid risks to your health and the health of your loved ones. Bad habits are not easily broken. Good ones are not easily won. But you can do it! Read more: www.healthierus.gov/index.html
